Building Bridges
May 2010
Hallett Silbermann were recently awarded a contract to transport 9 prefabricated bridge sections from the South Coast to Reading where they were assembled into two larger sections for final positioning using modular trailers arranged and escorted by Hallett Silbermann.

The 9 sections, which were between 5.1m (16’9) & 6.66m (22’0) wide, each had to be moved over 100 miles by road. Only one out of the four police forces involved provided officers to escort these loads; the other three forces being satisfied that the experienced escort vehicle drivers from Hallett Silbermann were competent to escort the loads through their areas. Everything moved exactly to plan with the only hic-cup being a 48 hour delay caused by a burst water main on the only accessible route.
A Hallett Silbermann project team undertook all the route surveys, organised the replacement of street lighting with a raise and lower illumination column, obtained the necessary movement authorisations and liaised with all the relevant highway authorities to ensure the smooth and successful completion of this complex contract.
The completed bridge is over 70m (230’) long and spans a dual carriageway at the entrance to a prestigious business park in Berkshire.
